“Where we look affects how we feel” Brainspotting (BSP) is my latest tool for my therapeutic tool bag. Developed since 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D. it is related to the practice of EMDR.
BSP makes use of the natural phenomenon of gazing, through its use of relevant eye positions. When trauma and its relevant memories are triggered certain parts of the brain are activated, and externalised via the eyes to very specific eye positions. By working with these ‘Brainspots’ in a very focused way, and within the support of the therapeutic relationship it is possible to tap into and harness the body’s natural self-scanning, self healing ability.
Brainspotting is designed as a therapeutic tool, and can be used to process trauma, strengthen natural resources and resilience and enhance performance.
